Dear Mr. Kirkpatrick,
I am very sorry for the loss of your son Scott. I am glad that you could go to Arlington, I was there and was so deeply touched. I am about 40 minutes from Love Va and if you like I could drive to Love and find Scott's flag for you. If you would like to have it I would be happy to mail it to you.
I was able to spend some time w/the runners and help tag the flags for the next day, it is a memory I will cherish and hold dear. I was on the road w/them for a day and learned that each morning before the run they read out loud the service member's names that they will be running for on that given day. Once the flags have been placed at the mile marker they will call out the individual service member's name again at his/her flag as the runners go by. The respect and reverence I experienced w/Jon and the runners, brings me tears right now. Powerful and loving. Honorable and noble. Your son will not be forgotten.

Thank you for letting me share the day with you and Marti. I'm sorry I could not run as I had planned to... but hopefully I'll make that up to you on October 11. Love you. :)
